So 2014 started well for my reqworked stock. I did finish this cute little pixie coat. Size 8 quite short - unique as all our stuff is. Selling at £80. I have been quite distracted by the need to make a cot quilt for my Grand daughter's first birthday so I have not produce as much stock as I usually do for the shop. But I have sorted all the handmade jewelry out and priced all the DIY bags - get along to the shop and see what is new! happy New Year to you all.
Not a particularly creative time of the year for me - but loads of stocktaking and housekeeping done in the Reworked workshop. Most of our fabulous volunteers take a bit of a well earned rest. I put the Overlocker to the test by making some cute fingerless gloves - wooly ones and a sheer evening pair and promptly broke a needle! For the machine nerds amongst us - the Rewoked Pfaff Overlocker takes specialist needles and can I locate any? You guessed it no I cannot. I also managed rather a cool party dress size 6 - but forgot to take a photo of it. The shop now has Wifi. We have had loads of really good donations of fabric and some new vintage patterns. Currently the Oxfam Shop in Caversham is running a sale on its clothing and many reworked items have been reduced to half price. Well worth a visit. See you all in 2014 when I promise to get stuck into some jumpers and pixie coats as the weather promises to get a lot colder. Just a selection of the fabulous Reworked festive accessories and trimmings which will be on sale at the Reading University Festive Fair Trade Fayre. This Thursday December 5th 12.00 till 2pm. What a brilliant time we had. Great reception for our Reworked stock at the Reading Uni Festive Fair trade Fayre. We still have some accessories and Christmas bits and pieces which will be on sale at the shop.
We have a late night session on the11th December - lots of fab dresses will be on sale. Watch this space :-) This Saturday I now have the added bonus of taking a selection of our festive fare to Aldryngton Primary school Christmas Fayre. So it was a fair!!!! week. Still no sign of the beloved overlocker - but I did make loads of fingerless gloves most of which, I am happy to report, sold. Now to focus on pixie coats. So the Monday team dressed as elves - as you do!. More festive fashion frolics are planned. The reworkers pulled out all the stops to create stock for next week's Reading University Festive FairTraid Fayre which promises to be as good fun as it was last year where I ended up selling my own pixie coat which I had foolishly hung on the mirror next to our stall. Ah well all in a good cause. I spent a lot of this week bemoaning the lack of the Reworked Overlocker Machine. It is in for a well deserved service but it is greatly missed! I feel the need to get on with some pixie coats (See the before and after Reworked images page - if you do not know what I mean by a pixie coat) . I shall start with Rebeca's coat as soon as the Reading University Festive Fair Traid Fayre is over next Thursday. Do come along 12 till 2pm. at the Palmer building!
A little bit of history - about Reworked for Oxfam. I am a very enthusiastic volunteer reworker. I cannot claim to have thought of,or set up, the Reworked for Oxfam idea but I do lay claim to ensuring it did not go under when we lost the shop in the Harris Arcade - in Reading.
The workshop - is now housed upstairs in the Oxfam shop 12 Prospect St. Caversham, Reading RG4 8JG. https:// facebook.com/oxfamshopcaversham We have about 20 talented volunteer reworkers. They each have particular skills and styles. It is a joy to be part of the team. A sample of our work is on display on this site. The stuff is georgeous!!!! Currently - we are in the less than excitingly named week 35. Much of our creation is focussed on items for Christmas. I hope to update these posts regularly - who knows what joys - weeks 36 to 50 might bring. So keep following. Bye for now Cathy Re 'Q' |
